Offline RPGs that don't cut corners
Plenty of games call themselves offline RPGs and then quietly demand a login or an ad server before letting you play. A true offline RPG runs in airplane mode from the title screen to the credits, and that's the first test I run on every one.
Emberfall Saga is my current benchmark. The turn-based combat lets you think between moves, which suits playing in short bursts, and the whole campaign lives on your device. That last part matters more than fancy graphics when you're stuck underground.
When you're browsing a store, check the download size and whether the description mentions online features. A big local download is usually a good sign for offline content. Vague promises of daily rewards or events often hint at connection requirements.
My advice: pick one RPG with a real narrative and one lighter game for quick sessions. That combo covers most travel days without ever touching your data.
